Thank you for your interest in my sculpture titled “Khata Lion”. This is a way for me to describe my view and beliefs of the world we share and live in. The story begins a very long time ago!
Adam & Eve listened to the Serpent’s lie and chose to eat the forbidden fruit in hopes of becoming gods! In listening to the Serpent, they lost a portion of their humanity. Later, humans allied with more serpents who taught them violence and ways of destroying fellow humans. In doing so, they lost more and more of their humanity and chose to become animalistic in nature.
In ancient texts, the Angels, who were close to the throne, were symbolized as Serpents. They could fly, and their poison bites would burn but they were also wise! Therefore, they were otherwise called Serpents, Flaming Serpents, Flying Serpents, and Flaming Ones!
KHATA (חטא), in Hebrew, means to miss the target or fail to meet the goal. The goal was to be a Human; showing God’s love to other humans and taking care of the Earth. The English translation of this word is SIN. This is a failure to be human: being animalistic towards our brothers and sisters.
Many look to a Lion for inspiration in life. They aspire its power, ferocity, tenacity and assign kingship to this animal. This gets applied to Leadership, Business, Work and Relationships. We have become animalistic in our own ways. Our lives are marred by the violence and apathy we exact upon each other in our efforts to become kings…to become gods…assimilating the Lie of the Serpent!
Khata Lion symbolizes the human who aspires to become a god. The face is marred by the violent lifestyle of the jungle with the damage manifested as a wound in the shape of a cobra’s head. The eyes have snake-like slits to symbolize the person’s view of the world tainted by the Lie of the Serpent!
